Fume Hood Applications

Laboratory Fume Hoods are designed to protect users against inhalation exposure, chemical spills, run-away reactions and fires therefore, it should compatible with the type of work that will be performed. For example, working with radio isotopes  or carcinogens requires a fume hood with a non-absorbent lining (usually stainless steel) designed to be easily decontaminated.

Only a specially designed laboratory fume hoodshould be used for perchloric acid procedures. This fumehood type should be clearly labeled and its use restricted to only perchloric acid procedures.

Other specialized applications may require explosion proof fixtures, electrical receptacles, non-combustibleliner materials or fire extinguisher systems.

Never use a fume hood that has not been designed for the type of procedure being performed!
